A woman’s love story turned nightmare when her lover forced an abortion and blackmailed her.

A 26-year-old woman from Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, working as a manager in an insurance company, once fell for a man she met on Instagram in 2021 while studying in Rajamahendravaram.

He claimed to work in interior design in Hyderabad. They became friends, started chatting, exchanged numbers, and soon began a romantic relationship. Everything seemed normal—like a modern-day love story.

When he visited Hyderabad, they explored the city together. He promised marriage multiple times, booking hotel rooms to spend private time. She trusted him and believed in his words.

In 2022, she got pregnant, but he forced an abortion. Despite this, their physical relationship continued. When she confronted him about marriage, his true nature surfaced—he refused and pressured her to stay silent.

He blocked her on social media and threatened to upload her private photos online if she mentioned marriage again. Her hopes were crushed, turning love into fear and blackmail.

The woman filed a complaint at the SR Nagar Police Station. She reported threats of sharing private photos and harassment. Police collected his details and began an investigation. He may soon be taken into custody.

Such cases are increasingly common. Many young women face deception before marriage, leading them to seek police help. Authorities advise youth to remain cautious in relationships.

India’s Supreme Court recognises “false promise of marriage” as a serious offence. Physical relations under false marriage intent can be considered rape (IPC 375). Evidence of fraudulent intent is key, and the law now provides clear protection for victims.
