A fire triggered by debris from an intercepted aerial threat led to the shutdown of operations at a major gas complex in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Authorities confirmed that activity at the Habshan gas facility, Abu Dhabi’s largest natural gas processing site, was halted after falling fragments from a neutralised attack sparked a blaze. This marks the second disruption at the gas facility since tensions in West Asia escalated. Follow for live update

In a statement posted on X, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said emergency teams were responding to the incident at the Habshan site following a successful interception by air defence systems. Operations were suspended as a precaution, though no injuries were reported.

“Abu Dhabi authorities are responding to an incident of falling debris at the Habshan gas facilities, following successful interception by air defence systems. Operations have been suspended while authorities respond to a fire. No injuries have been reported. The public is advised to obtain information only from official sources and to avoid spreading rumours or unverified information," the tweet read.

The Habshan complex, operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), is central to the emirate’s energy infrastructure, handling the collection, processing, and distribution of gas for domestic use. It also houses oil facilities and serves as the origin point for Adnoc’s crude pipeline to Fujairah, a strategically important port located outside the Strait of Hormuz.

The development came amid a series of regional strikes. Earlier in the day, Kuwait’s Mina Al Ahmadi refinery was hit, resulting in fires in active units. Separately, a power and water desalination facility was also targeted, sustaining damage to parts of its infrastructure.
