Moments after Rafael Leão calmly slotted the game-winning penalty, AC Milan center-back Matteo Gabbia stepped in — and not on the pitch, but on his teammate.

As Leão tore off his shirt in celebration, Gabbia sprinted over, grabbed it, and yanked it back down, saving him from an automatic yellow card. Leão couldn’t help but laugh at the move — teammates looking out for each other, literally.

Leão Back and Better Than Ever

Leão, making his first start of the Serie A season after an injury layoff, scored twice in the 2-1 win over Fiorentina. Those were his first Serie A goals at San Siro since May 2024, and they sent Milan back to the top of the table.

Thin Attack, Big Stakes

With Pulisic, Rabiot, and Nkunku all injured, Milan can’t afford to lose Leão to cards or suspensions. Gabbia’s quick thinking may have just kept Milan’s attack alive — and it clearly earned him some Instagram love from the striker, who posted a snapshot of the moment with laughing-crying emojis.

Sometimes, heroics come in the small, unexpected moments — like a center-back playing referee for your shirt.
