In Azamgarh, Javed, accused of raping a 5-year-old girl, was arrested after an exchange of fire with police. The incident occurred when the girl's parents were away, leaving her alone at home.
VARANASI: Javed, an accused of raping a 5-year-old girl, suffered a bullet injury in the leg during an exchange of fire with Mehnagar police in Azamgarh district on Saturday late night before his arrest.
On Friday evening, he raped the innocent minor girl when her parents went to the market, leaving her alone at home.Azamgarh ASP (City) Madhuvan Kumar Singh said on Sunday that after registering a named FIR against Javed for raping a minor girl, Mehnagar police were carrying out raids to nab him. On Saturday night, they received inputs that Javed would try to leave the district via Rajdharpur village, prompting them to cordon off the area.
Late at night, police noticed some movement of a person and signalled him to stop with a torchlight.However, upon seeing the police, the miscreants opened fire on them and tried to escape. The police team retaliated in a similar manner in self-defence, resulting in Javed suffering a bullet injury in the leg and falling in a field. Police rushed him to the community health centre in Mehnagar after recovering a country-made pistol and live cartridge.
Javed, aged around 40, came on the radar of the police after a couple lodged an FIR on Friday night. The couple alleged that when they went to the market in the evening, leaving their 5-year-old daughter alone at home, Javed entered the house and raped her. The incident came to light when they returned home and found the girl lying in a pool of blood. They immediately rushed the girl to the hospital.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
