Two days after a tigress and her four cubs were found dead in Karnataka, forest authorities revealed on Saturday they were killed in an act of apparent revenge.

According to authorities, the deadly plan was executed by a man whose cow was preyed upon by wild animals.

During investigation, three people, including the owner of the dead cow, came under police lens and were, subsequently, arrested on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.

The incident was reported in the Hugyam forest range of Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Chamarajanagara district.

After the big cats were found dead on Thursday, police had launched probe into the matter. As probe picked up pace, it came to light that they were poisoned. The incident had created a furore in the state.

According to PTI, police got a significant lead in the case after the carcass of a poisoned cow belonging to Maada alias Maaduraju was recovered.

PTI, citing forest officials, mentioned that Maaduraju was reportedly furious after his cow named ‘Kenchi’ was preyed upon by wild animals. To take revenge for his loss, Maaduraju sprayed poison on the cow’s carcass. It is learnt that his friends Konappa and Nagaraju were also allegedly part of the conspiracy.
