Action sought against journalist for derogatory remarks against women farmers

Women on Sunday staged protests demanding action against journalist V.V.R. Krishnam Raju for his alleged derogatory remarks against women farmers agitating in Amaravati Capital Region, at various places in the State.

Mr. Raju, during a debate on a Telugu television channel on Saturday, had allegedly made some derogatory remarks against the women who were supporting Amaravati Capital.

Women leaders of various political parties and organisations staged protests at Nuzvid, Jangareddygudem, Gannavaram and other places. They lodged complaints and urged the police to take action against Mr. Raju, the anchor (who moderated the debate) and the channel management.

AP Congress party leader Sunkara Padmasri on Sunday condemned the comments and demanded that the government book a case against the journalist and the channel management.

Meanwhile, women leaders of Amaravati JAC submitted a representation to AP Mahila Commission Chairperson Raypati Sailaja demanding action against Mr. Raju. The Commission chairperson assured to take action against the accused as per law, the protestors said.
