The young all-rounder powering Haryana’s cricket dreams
Chandigarh: When the Indian women’s cricket team lifted the World Cup trophy, the entire nation rejoiced. But for 15-year-old Aditi Sheoran, a native of Dubheta, a non-descriptive village in Haryana’s Sonepat district, it meant something more, it was a dream calling her name.At just twelve, Aditi broke barriers by joining the Sector-16 Cricket Academy in Chandigarh, where she was the only girl training among boys. Under the guidance of coach Sanjeev Pathania, her fearless batting and sharp spin bowling began to draw attention. Today, as a top-order batter and all-rounder, she leads from the front.A student at Carmel Convent School, Sector-9, Chandigarh, Aditi balances her class-X studies with five to six hours of cricket practice every day.
Her dedication has already earned her spots in Under-15 and Under-19 Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) tournaments, and for two consecutive years, she has represented Chandigarh in the National School Games. In 2025, she became the youngest captain to lead the under-19 Chandigarh team at the School National Games in Udaipur, guiding her team with calm maturity beyond her years. Her consistent performance at state, national, and BCCI tournaments has made her a familiar name in junior cricket circles.
Aditi’s trophy shelf tells her story, three consecutive state-level medals in inter-school tournaments, the Player of the Match title in every game of the 2024 Gully Cricket Tournament (a record-setting event with 46 teams, later listed in the Asia Book of Records), and captaincy of her school’s cricket team. Her achievements have not gone unnoticed. On Republic Day 2025, she was honoured in Sonepat by Haryana Cabinet Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi, and later that year, on Independence Day, she received the prestigious State Award from Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chandigarh.
Her school also celebrated her success, with Sports Secretary Prerna Puri presenting a special recognition on Sports Day.Off the field, Aditi is also an NCC cadet and an active participant in school events, a blend of discipline and energy. Behind her success stands a strong support system, her grandfather Raghuvir Sheoran, Grandmother Murti Devi, and mother Annu Sheoran, who have encouraged her every step of the way.For Aditi, cricket is not just a sport, it’s a mission to show that girls from even the smallest villages can dream big and shine on the world stage. And as she holds her bat and looks toward the horizon, one thing is certain, India’s next cricketing icon might just be growing up in Dubheta, Haryana.
