Several people remain hospitalised in Hyderabad after allegedly consuming adulterated toddy sourced from depots in Kukatpally.

At Gandhi Hospital, 23 people were receiving treatment as on Sunday evening, with five of them reported to be in critical condition. The critically ill patients have been identified as Vadla Sugunamma, 61, from Hydernagar; K. Nirmala, 47 and B. Latha, 55, from Kukatpally; Manjala Swapna, 26, from Jagadgirigutta, and P. Gangamani, 42, who are either on ventilator support or undergoing dialysis.

Authorities confirmed the deaths of five persons in connection with the incident, including Ch. Swaroopa, 61, Metla Narayana, 40, Jaraputolla Mounika, 25, Ch. Narsamma, 65, and Chakali Pedda Gangaram, 70.

At the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), 23 patients continue to receive treatment. Hospital officials stated that 10 patients are undergoing dialysis, while three others were expected to be discharged on Sunday. “A patient has been admitted on Sunday with similar symptoms including diarrhea and low blood pressure (BP) for about a week for which she had been receiving treatment at a local hospital in Kukatpally. The doctors have evaluated her health and kept her under observation,” an official from NIMS informed.

A total of 10 patients had already been discharged earlier—five on Friday and another five on Saturday.

The Excise department and police are continuing their probe into the incident. Officials are questioning those arrested in connection with the toddy compounds believed to be the source of the adulterated drink.
