In the morning, a 5.2, 4.6 and 4.5 hit the nation at different time. The 6.0-magnitude quake struck remote eastern provinces on Sunday night, wiping out villages and leaving survivors trapped under rubble. Most casualties were reported in Kunar, a mountainous region with isolated river valleys. Taliban spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said rescue work and aid distribution were underway, but rough terrain and funding shortfalls are hampering efforts. This marks the third major quake to hit Afghanistan since the Taliban took power in 2021.
