After a 10-day lull, Goa records 63mm rainfall in 24 hours

Panaji: Goa experienced a respite from the heat after it received 63.5mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30am on July 15, breaking a stretch of nearly 10 days of erratic and below-average precipitation.

This comes after a lull in rainfall that saw daily amounts dipping under 60mm and even reaching as low as 15.4mm on July 14.The state earlier recorded its wettest day of the season Jon July 3, with 161 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period, followed by a decrease to 59.4 mm the next day on July 4, and a gradual decline in rainfall intensity.The surge in rainfall led to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for Tuesday. In addition, the IMD issued a yellow alert for July 16, warning of heavy rainfall likely at isolated places across Goa. The state can expect winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph in certain areas.
