After failed car crash bid, man attempts suicide by jumping into canal over financial distress

DEHRADUN: A 45-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide due to financial distress after losing his savings in business in Uttrakhand's Rishikesh .The man, identified as Mukesh Kothari, a resident of Pashulok Colony in Rishikesh, first tried to crash his car into a pole.

However, the attempt failed as the vehicle’s airbags deployed.He then jumped into the Shakti canal. Local Van Gujjar youths acted quickly and rescued him from the water.Police reached the spot and took him into custody. During questioning, it was found that he had been suffering from depression due to severe financial losses.After counselling and completing necessary formalities, police handed him over to his family members.
