After his successful mediation of the Gaza peace deal, US President Donald Trump turned his attention to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, saying he plans to broker a peace agreement between the two countries.

Addressing the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem, Trump told US Envoy Steve Witkoff, “If you don’t mind, we need to first get the Russia deal done. We’ve got to get it done. We will get it done."

He added that while it would also be great to work on a peace deal with Iran, the priority is Russia. “If you don’t mind, Steve, let’s focus on Russia. We’ll take care of it," he said.

The Gaza deal, which Trump helped negotiate, led to the release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

The US President described the success as a major diplomatic achievement, calling it a moment of joint celebration for the United States, Israel, and even some Arab and Muslim nations.

“We received a great deal of help from people you wouldn’t have guessed at all. This is a very extraordinary time in history," he said.

During his Knesset address, Trump also spoke about Operation Midnight Hammer, the U.S. military strike on Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility.

Trump has a history of attempting to mediate the Russia-Ukraine conflict, including efforts at the 2025 London Summit, where leaders discussed possible solutions, and a high-level US-Russia summit in Saudi Arabia in February 2025, aimed at restarting talks after years of stalled diplomacy.

The Russia–United States Summit, held on August 15 at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Alaska, also brought together Trump and President Vladimir Putin to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War.

The Ukraine war, which began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022, remains ongoing, but Trump expressed optimism, saying he believes the conflict can be resolved.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has welcomed Trump’s approach, calling the Gaza ceasefire a “real success" and suggesting it could serve as a model for ending the Ukraine war.

Trump’s assertive stance also includes a warning to Russia of potential military escalation, including the possible use of long-range Tomahawk missiles if Moscow fails to negotiate, a move that has drawn concern from the Kremlin.
