Days after playback singer Kumar Sanu and several other Bollywood celebrities approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of their personality and publicity rights, actor Hrithik Roshan has filed a similar plea. The actor has moved the court to safeguard his name, image, likeness, voice, and other personality attributes from unauthorised commercial use and misuse.The matter will be heard on Wednesday by Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora.
‘Hrithik seeks to stop misuse of his identity’
As per ANI, Roshan’s plea names several known and unknown entities, including John Does (unnamed individuals), who have allegedly used his personality traits for commercial benefit without his consent. The actor has sought an injunction to prevent such misuse, asking the court to restrain parties from exploiting his identity online, in advertisements, or through any other medium.Justice Arora is also expected to hear a similar plea by singer Kumar Sanu, who alleged that morphed videos and defamatory content using his name and likeness were being circulated online.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had directed Meta and Google to explain why URLs containing “morphed videos” and “profane language” could not be taken down by their grievance officers. The court’s observation came amid growing concerns over the misuse of celebrity identities in the digital space.

‘AI misuse poses long-term damage’
The issue of personality rights and online misuse has increasingly come under judicial focus. Recently, while protecting actor Nagarjuna’s personality rights, the court flagged the dangers posed by generative artificial intelligence (AI).
