In the wake of serious allegations emerging from Tata Consultancy Services’ Nashik unit, Tata Sons has ordered a comprehensive, group-wide review of workplace conduct, terming the issue alarming and a matter of top priority.
Sources said Tata Sons has directed its Chief Operating Officer, Aarti Subramaniam, to constitute a high-level internal committee to thoroughly examine the complaints and assess lapses, if any, in handling employee grievances.
In addition, all Tata Group companies have been instructed to review their internal environments to identify potential instances of harassment or ethical violations, in line with the conglomerate’s zero-tolerance policy.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has also asked the Tata Consultancy Services board to keep the holding company regularly informed about developments in the probe.
The matter is being monitored at the highest level, and a TCS board meeting is likely to be convened on Thursday to review the committee’s progress and initial findings, sources added.
Earlier this week, Chandrasekaran described the allegations from the Nashik office as “gravely concerning and anguishing," announcing a detailed investigation under senior leadership to establish facts and fix accountability.
The case involves complaints by eight women employees alleging sexual harassment and attempts at forced religious conversion at the Maharashtra facility.
According to the Tata Group, action has already been initiated against the accused employees, and the company is extending full cooperation to law enforcement agencies.
Chandrasekaran has reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found guilty, along with immediate corrective steps to strengthen internal processes and grievance redressal mechanisms.
The Nashik episode has sparked a broader debate on workplace safety and complaint-handling systems in large IT firms.
So far, nine FIRs have been registered against eight employees, seven of whom are under arrest, while investigations continue and authorities have urged more affected individuals to come forward.
