Vasco: As the deadline for the inauguration of the fish market project in Vasco is set for Sep 25, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) banned the sale and storage of fish by wholesale vendors within a 1km-radius of the new fish market.The new market project, estimated to cost Rs 7 crore, was completed two months ago, but was awaiting its inauguration. Some fish vendors had raised objections over the sale and storage of fish by the wholesalers, thereby affecting their business.“We have notified the fish market and banned the sale and storage of fish, by anyone other than the vendors operating from the new market within a km-radius,” said MMC chairperson Girish Borkar.The inauguration of the new fish market is slated for Sep 25 by urban development minister Vishwajit Rane.Borkar added that the fish vendors who are operating from the temporary shed at Shree Dev Damodar Trust premises will be shifted to the new fish market project once it is commissioned.
