Alexander Isak returned to the training pitch on Tuesday, following his £125 million ($168.86 million) transfer to Liverpool, which made him the most expensive player in Premier League history on Monday.

After being made to train alone by his former club Newcastle United amid the uncertainty of his move to Liverpool, Isak was seen smiling and laughing with his Sweden teammates in Stockholm as they prepared for their World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo.

Despite the late arrival, there were no signs of fatigue on Tuesday morning. The white car carrying the 25-year-old had quietly entered the team’s Stockholm hotel parking garage well past midnight, concluding a long day and an even longer transfer saga.

“That’s what you want," fellow striker Viktor Gyokeres, who experienced his own transfer tussle over the summer, told reporters when asked if he was relieved that the transfer window had closed. “It’s not something you want to be stuck in forever. Playing is what we all live for, and we’re looking forward to the upcoming games."

Both Isak and Gyokeres, who transferred from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal in a deal worth up to £63 million, exerted pressure on their former clubs to facilitate their moves. This provoked disapproval from former fans and accusations that players wield too much power.

However, Gyokeres disagreed with that notion. “I think the clubs have the most power," he said. “When a player is not wanted at a club, it’s the total opposite. He has no power, and the club can do whatever they want."

Sweden now boasts two of the world’s best strikers as they begin their World Cup qualifying campaign away to Slovenia on Friday.

Although he did not elaborate on Isak’s role, Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson said he could be a “game-changer".

Regardless of the specifics, Gyokeres is excited to team up with Liverpool’s new number nine again. “We’ve played a few games together and felt very good in those games. He’s scored, I’ve scored, and we’ve assisted each other, so I think it’s good to keep going on that path."
