After Venezuela’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was announced this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner for fighting for democratic rights in her country, Congress leader Surendra Rajput drew parallels between her and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, saying that he is also fighting to save the Constitution in the country.
Rajput shared a picture of Machado and Gandhi in a post on X and apparently suggested that the Congress leader also deserves the coveted award.
“This time, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the opposition leader of Venezuela for defending the constitution. The opposition leader of India, Shri Rahul Gandhi, is leading the fight to save the country’s Constitution," he said in a post on X.

BJP Quips
Soon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a dig at the Congress spokesperson’s post and said that he would get the award for securing 99 electroral defeats.
Calling the mention of Rahul Gandhi in the post “bizarre", BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, “Bizarre Congress is demanding Nobel Prize for Rahul Baba He would get it if there one meant for 1) hypocrisy 2) lying 3) losing elections 99 times ! 4) murdering democracy and constitution in 1975 and 1984."

Who Won The Nobel Peace Prize 2025?
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote democracy and human rights in Venezuela and for leading a peaceful struggle in a bid to end authoritarian rule in the country.
“As the leader of the democracy movement in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado is one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America in recent times. She is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy," Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said while speaking to reporters on Friday in Oslo.
The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five original awards established by Alfred Nobel’s will in 1895. Unlike the other prizes, which are awarded by Swedish institutions, the Peace Prize is presented by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, a five-member body elected by the Norwegian Parliament.
