The Uttarakhand government has issued rules to give 10% reservation in recruitment to uniformed posts for permanent residents of the state who have served as Agniveers.

The Agniveer Horizontal Reservation Rules, 2025, were issued by the state’s Department of Personnel and Vigilance for recruitment to uniformed posts under Group C services of the Uttarakhand State Subordinate Services. The 10% horizontal reservation is applicable for direct recruitment of former Agniveers who are native or permanent residents of Uttarakhand.

These posts include Police Constable (Civil/PAC), Sub-Inspector, Platoon Commander (PAC), Fireman, Second Officer (Fire Service), Jail Guard, Deputy Jailer, Forest Guard, Forest Ranger, Excise Constable, Enforcement Constable, and Secretariat Guard. They are also entitled to a relaxation of the upper age limit.

The rules also say that Agniveers, who have been issued a discharge certificate from the Indian Armed Forces and whose credentials have been duly verified, shall be exempt from the physical efficiency test during direct recruitment.

“Ex-Agniveers shall be granted relaxation in the upper age limit for direct recruitment equivalent to the total period of service rendered as an Agniveer in the Indian Armed Forces,” said the rules.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the Agniveers who return after “serving the nation are the pride of our state”.

“It is our responsibility to provide them with respect and employment opportunities. This decision is a concrete step towards securing the future of retired Agniveers. Our government is making every effort to employ ex-servicemen and Agniveers in all possible ways,” he said.

The Cabinet had approved this decision on August 13.

In June, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved a proposal to provide 20% reservation to former Agniveers in direct recruitment to the state police force, including the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC), Mounted Police, and the Fire Services. Like ex-servicemen, former Agniveers will also get a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit based on their service duration.
