Ahmedabad: The recovery of the bodies of an 18-year-old woman and her 13-year-old relative from the Narmada canal near Bahiyal village in Dehgam taluka has sent shockwaves and triggered speculation in the region.
Dehgam police said the two victims, residents of Kheda district, were found dead in the canal under unexplained circumstances.According to police, the bodies were recovered from the canal on Thursday after local authorities received information about two unidentified females floating in the water. During the retrieval operation, officials discovered that the two were tied together at the waist with a dupatta.
Police also noted that both were dressed in similar clothing.Preliminary inquiries revealed that the duo, related to each other, left their home on the night of June 11 without informing family members. Their disappearance prompted relatives to begin a search and contact acquaintances in neighbouring areas. The search continued the next day.Police said family members later learnt about the recovery of two bodies from the Bahiyal canal and rushed to the location, where the victims were identified.
Dehgam police registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation. Statements of family members from both sides have been recorded. So far, no relative has raised suspicion against anyone or alleged foul play.The bodies were sent for postmortem examination, and police are analysing available evidence, including witness statements and other circumstances surrounding their disappearance and deaths.
