AHMEDABAD: The 50-year-old Ramesh Thakore, who committed suicide inside his apartment in the Bileshwar Mahadev locality around 9 pm on Friday, is suspected to have taken his life following his illness. The Anandnagar police have registered a case of accidental death and are further investigating. BK Bharai, the Anandnagar Police Inspector, said that the statement of the family is yet to be recorded, but the primary investigation reveals that Thakore was ill for some time, and it was because of this he was under depression. "We feel that it was his illness which could be the cause of the suicide. We have not been able to contact his close relatives, and hence it cannot be said with surety if he had the arms licence for the weapon that he used for firing.
"Cops said that Thakore suffered from unbearable back pain due to a nerve issue in his leg and had diabetes and heart-related issues. "Family friends said that due to the back pain, he could hardly sleep," said senior cops.
On Friday, Thakore ended his life by shooting himself with a revolver at his Jodhpur-area residence, police said. The victim, identified as Ramesh Thakor, reportedly fired the gun inside his apartment in the Bileshwar Mahadev locality around 9 pm.
Thakor, who owned a business, lived with his family in the apartment. Cops said that the deceased was sitting on the sofa in the living room of his apartment. His wife then went upstairs for work, and in the meantime, he shot himself in the forehead with a revolver.
The sound of the gunshot alerted his family members, who immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.Cops suspect that the weapon used for the suicide did not have a licence in the name of Thakore. The cops said that once his last rites are completed, they would record the statement of the family. However, if the revolver was in his name, the cops would investigate how he obtained the revolver.
