‘My son’s killer deserves nothing less than hanging,’ says Nayan’s father; slams school’s role

Girish Santani, father of the teen murdered at Seventh Day Adventist School, demanded capital punishment for the accused at a condolence meet. Criticizing the juvenile justice system and the school's negligence, he urged for its closure.

AHMEDABAD: Girish Santani, the father of Nayan Santani who was stabbed to death at Seventh Day Adventist School in Maninagar on Aug 19, became emotional while speaking at a condolence meet for his son on Saturday.

Santani said that hanging till death is the only befitting punishment for his son's murderer."We have come to know that the two teens apprehended by investigators were taken to the juvenile court. We all know that they will be tried as juveniles and will be out in two to three years. Is it right? I want to request the authorities that the only befitting punishment for this act is hanging till death," Santani told the packed audience, primarily consisting of the Sindhi community members, parents of the students of Seventh Day Adventist School, and local residents.

He added that only this act will give peace to his departed son's soul.

The event, taking place in the vicinity of the school, was organised by Jan Akrosh Vali Mandal, a parents' association. Santani also criticised the role of the school and appealed to the authorities to shut it down. "My child was injured, and the authorities knew it. He lay there for 50 minutes, and no help was extended. No police or 108 (emergency ambulance) were called up," he said.

"It is my appeal to the parents to look for schools which are not just charging more fees but also imparting good culture to the students."Naroda MLA Payal Kukrani, who was present at the condolence meet, said that they prayed for the departed soul and are attempting to ensure that the juveniles involved in the crime be tried as adults due to the nature of the crime. "There will surely be a strict and exemplary action in the incident," she said. Maninagar MLA Amul Bhatt was also present and appealed to all to ensure law and order as the law will take its course.Right-wing leaders, including VHP joint secretary Dharmendra Bhavani, were also on the stage with the family.
