AIADMK functionary fires thrice in air after quarrel with wife, in-laws

ERODE: An AIADMK functionary in Erode district fired thrice in the air with his licensed gun on Sunday night after a quarrel with his wife and after being allegedly assaulted by his in-laws.

The Nambiyur police detained the AIADMK functionary, identified as S Gopinath, 35, of Andavarmalai near Gobichettipalayam.Gopinath, a farmer, who is the joint secretary AIADMK student's wing in Erode West district, picked up a quarrel with his wife, Brinda, 30, around 9pm on Sunday. Brinda called her father, Velusamy, and younger brother, Dinesh Kuamar, over the phone and informed them that Gopinath had beaten her up. Around 10.30pm, Brinda's father and brother reached there and allegedly assaulted Gopinath. The assault happened in the courtyard. Enraged, Gopinath went inside, took his licensed gun, went out and fired three times in the air.Brinda, her father and brother ran into the house, closed the door and informed the Nambiyur police. The police reached the spot and detained Gopinath.Further investigations were on.Gopinath and Brinda, who got married 12 years ago, have a 10-year-old daughter.
