AIADMK legislators, led by its leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, on Monday (June 22, 2026) staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly to protest the denial of permission by Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar to raise the Mekedatu issue.

The Speaker said he could not permit the discussion as the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) had decided there would be neither Question Hour nor Zero Hour during the sitting, and the resolution on Mekedatu had been unanimously accepted by all parties.

Mr. Palaniswami insisted on raising the issue, arguing it was of vital importance to Tamil Nadu. However, the Speaker reiterated that the House was bound by the decision taken by the BAC.

After a brief exchange with the Speaker, AIADMK members walked out of the House in protest.
