Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag flagged of an HIV/AIDS awareness run conducted as part of Yuvajanothsava 2025, on Thursday.
Called the Red Ribbon Run, the event was jointly organised by the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, District Legal Services Authority, Chamarajanagar University, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, district administration, zilla panchayat, police department, and other departments and organisations.
The Red Ribbon Run was held as part of the IEC campaign 2025, which is a focused initiative to prevent HIV/AIDS, according to the authorities.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nag emphasised the importance of public awareness about HIV/AIDS, and called upon the public to eschew discrimination against those afflicted by it. “They deserve the same respect and opportunities as anyone else. HIV/AIDS is not transmitted through talking or shaking hands. Responsible citizens must treat them with dignity,” she added.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the youth to play an active role in spreading awareness about the disease and said that it had to be a continuous effort involving all sections of the society, and was not the responsibility of the government departments alone.
Senior officials of Chamarajanagar district administration, including Zilla Panchayat CEO Mona Roth, Additional Superintendent of Police M.N. Shashidhar, District Health Officer S. Chidambaram, and representatives from medical institutions were among those present.
