Rajesh Kumar PandeyDumka: AIIMS Deoghar has performed its first permanent pacemaker implantation using the advanced Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing (LBBAP) technique, marking a major step in cardiac care for the Santhal Pargana region. The patient, a 60-year-old woman from Deoghar, suffered repeated dizziness, near-fainting and fainting for a month. Her condition worsened so much that she was afraid to leave home.Investigations found she had Sick Sinus Syndrome, in which the heart’s natural pacemaker fails to maintain a normal rhythm. Diagnosed at another hospital, she was referred to AIIMS Deoghar for specialised treatment. The cardiology team, led by Dr C B Pandey and Dr Smarakranjan Rout, performed the procedure.
After implantation, the woman showed marked improvement, became symptom-free and was discharged in stable condition on Saturday.“Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing represents a major advancement in pacemaker therapy. By stimulating the heart’s natural conduction system, it allows for a more physiological and coordinated heartbeat, leading to improved long-term outcomes for patients,” Dr Pandey said.Dr Rout said, “This procedure requires specialised expertise and advanced equipment. Successfully performing it at AIIMS Deoghar demonstrates our commitment to providing world-class cardiac care to patients in this region.”
