AIIMS-P doctors reattach 6-year-old girl’s amputated hand

Patna: Doctors at AIIMS Patna successfully reattached the amputated right hand of a six-year-old Vaishali girl during an overnight microsurgery. The child, Lakshmi Kumari, had suffered a near-total hand amputation in an accident involving a fodder-cutting machine at her home on Saturday afternoon.According to doctors, she was brought to AIIMS Patna around 7.30pm. The plastic surgery and anaesthesia teams immediately swung into action, and the surgery began at 8pm. A team of doctors worked for nearly six hours. The procedure was performed under the supervision of Dr Veena Singh, HoD, plastic surgery. The team included Dr Ansarul, Dr Kuldeep, Dr Mary, Dr Ajina, Dr Nikita and Dr Anup.By Monday, Lakshmi’s fingers showed positive signs of blood circulation.

Doctors said that with proper care and rehabilitation, she would be able to clap again within the next two months.LEPCON: More than 300 experts, researchers and young scholars from across India and abroad participated in the 33rd biennial national leprosy conference (LEPCON 2026) on Monday. It was organised by the department of dermatology at AIIMS Patna in collaboration with the Indian Association of Leprologists (IAL). Dr Kiran Katoch, recipient of the President’s Award, delivered the keynote address.
