An Air India plane with 242 passengers crashed near Ahmedabad airport. Rescue teams responded quickly, and injured passengers were hospitalized. No casualties reported.

Several flyers were injured in the horrific incident.
As an Air India plane carrying 242 people crashed near Ahmedabad airport after take-off on Thursday, chaotic scenes emerged from site. Soon after the crash, ambulances and other rescue teams were dispatched to assist in rescue and relief operations.
As per reports, at least 133 people were killed in the crash while several others sustained injuries in the horrific incident. During the crash, 232 passengers and 10 crew members were on board the flight. It is learnt the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian passenger.

Injured Flyers Hospitalised, Disturbing Visuals Emerge
Passengers were taken out of the damaged plane and were shifted to nearby hospitals. Many of them were declared dead while those who survived were hospitalised. Flyers with severed body parts were admitted to the hospitals in the city. Many ambulances were involved in the rescue operations. A huge crowd gathered at hospitals amid chaos caused by the crash. Disturbing visuals have emerged from the hospital.
The plane crash incident is believed to have taken place when the flight was taking off for London at around 1.17pm. Dark smoke was seen billowing from the crash site, turning the area grey. A gigantic plume smoke that rose from the site was visible from Dharpur near the Meghaninagar area.
The plane crashed directly on the BJ Medical College UG hostel mess in Meghani Nagar. Many MBBS students are said to have lost their lives.
Ex- Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani On Board Flight
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was reportedly onboard the flight. He is reported to be severely injured in the crash.
PM Modi Speaks To Amit Shah, Rammohan Naidu
As the incident triggered panic across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu about the crash. The PM asked the two ministers to go to Ahmedabad and ensure all possible assistance is extended to those affected.
Earlier today, Shah also spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel following the crash.
DGCA On Crash
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that an Air India Boeing 787 aircraft, bearing registration VT-ANB and operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed immediately after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.
“There were 242 persons on board the aircraft, including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew," the DGCA said in a statement. The aircraft was commanded by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain (LTC) with 8,200 hours of flying experience, and assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours.
According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 13:39 IST (08:09 UTC) from Runway 23. It issued a MAYDAY call shortly after takeoff, but there was no further response to ATC communications. The aircraft crashed just outside the airport perimeter moments later.
