Puratchi Thamizhagam Katchi leader ‘Airport’ Moorthy was attacked allegedly by workers of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) for making derogatory remarks on their leader Thol Thirumavalavan in YouTube videos.

Mr. Moorthy has been criticising and making controversial remarks on Mr. Thirumavalavan in YouTube videos and the VCK supporters have been trolling Mr. Moorthy on social media, said Police.

On Saturday (September 6, 2025) morning, Mr. Moorthy was waiting near the entrance of Police Headquarters in Mylapore. While he was waiting, a couple of VCK workers came there and attacked him unexpectedly. Even as his assistant attempted to prevent the attack, one of the VCK men beat him using footwear repeatedly, Police said.

In retaliation, Mr. Moorthy chased them and brandished a small knife. In the scuffle, the shirt of Mr. Moorthy was torn and the VCK workers left the place hailing Thirumavalavan. Both sides lodged complaints against each other.

Later talking to reporters, Mr. Moorthy said he came to know that Pattali Makkal Katchi functionaries would be coming to submit a petition to the DGP in connection with the armed gang attack on Aduthurai town panchayat chairperson Ma Ka Stalin. Utilising this, the workers of VCK stood along with others, launched an attack on him.

Mr. Moorthy said he was critical of Mr. Thirumalavan’s action and his support of the ruling DMK and he had lodged complaints twice alleging death threats to him, but Police failed to act on his complaints.
