State committee of All-India Student Federation (AISF) on Sunday demanded criminal action against the management of FIITJEE coaching centres in the State for “abruptly downing shutters after collecting huge amounts of money towards fees from students.”
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday (June 15), AISF State vice president M. Sai Kumar said that FIITJEE coaching centres across the country had collected huge amounts towards fees a year in advance from students. “Claiming losses due to failed investments in non-educational sectors, they have been shutting down centres one after another, citing inability to pay building rents and staff salaries,” he alleged.
He said that the FITJEE coaching centre near PVP Mall in Vijayawada, and one in Vizag, had not been paying building rent since last year. “Hundreds of students are studying there, most of whom had already paid 60%–80% of the full course fee in advance,” he said while adding that now the management had abruptly shut down operations, leaving students and parents high and dry.
Many students, who paid hefty fees ranging between ₹50,000 and ₹7 lakh, are now left helpless, and making rounds to the FIITJEE office demanding a refund, he said.
Mr. Sai Kumar said that the federation, along with students and parents, would initiate legal action against FITJEE. “We are collecting all relevant information and filing a case against the institution,” he said. The federation would also meet Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh seeking their immediate intervention, he added.
