UAE motorists will be tackling severely increasing fuel prices in April 2026, with the prices for petrol and diesel set to rise up to nearly Dh2 per litre. The new rates were approved by the UAE Fuel Price Committee and confirmed on March 31, 2026.
Due to this hike in fuel prices, Ajman has set a new taxi fare for the month. In April 2026, taking a taxi in the emirate will cost travellers Dh1.89 for each kilometre from April 2026, announced the transport authority on X. The price marks a 0.15 fils rise from the March fare of Dh1.74 per km. The petrol and diesel rates have been revised amid the regional tensions looming over the country. The new rates are as follows:
- Super 98 petrol will cost Dh3.39 a litre, compared to Dh2.59 in March
- Special 95 petrol will cost Dh3.28 per litre, compared to the current rate of Dh2.48
- E-Plus 91 petrol prices will cost Dh3.20 per litre, compared to the previous rate of Dh2.40 per litre
- Diesel will be charged at Dh4.69 a litre, compared to the current rate of Dh2.72
Global oil price surge drives UAE rates
The elevation of prices in the region is a direct effect of the shortage in the global oil markets.
The April hike reflects a sudden spike in crude prices worldwide. The oil prices have surged close to at $109 and $112 per barrel range due to the escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the disruption in supplies coming through vital shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. Each month the UAE Fuel Price Committee sets prices based on average international crude and refined duel costs. Benchmarks such as Murban are involved in the calculation as a part of the broader global pricing trends.
Getting a full tank of petrol in April will cost you between Dh40 and Dh60 more than it did in March, depending on the type of car you have. This price hike has been high only since March 2026 after the beginning of the regional tensions in February. In 2025, the fuel prices in the country were affordable and relatively low.
