All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislator and floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi lambasted the Telangana State government for various failures, at a review meeting hosted by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Saturday.
Mr. Owaisi reportedly sought answers from the minister as to why the development as seen in the Eastern and Western parts of the city is missing from the Old City. He also questioned the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on calling tenders for desilting of stormwater drains, after the onset of monsoon. He also pointed out that even where desilting was done, silt is being piled on the side, only to flow into the drain when it rains. Withholding payment to contractors for work done has resulted in lack of response for new tenders, he said.
He also raised the issue of removal of hawkers from the roadside, through Operation ROPE jointly by GHMC and the Traffic Police. More than eight lakh are dependent on street vending, he said, and questioned the government on the promise of model markets and hawkers’ bridge. “Do you want them [hawkers] to become petty thieves and chain snatchers by robbing them of their livelihoods?” he asked.
MP Eatala Rajender, and MLA Raja Singh too rained questions on the minister about desilting works and scope of flooding. Legislator Dasoju Sravan spoke about the condition of roads. Mr. Prabhakar assured action on all the issues pointed out, and also brought up drinking water projects from Godavari and Krishna.
