Akon ARRESTED in Georgia on outstanding warrant; singer's mugshot goes viral

Singer and producer Akon was briefly detained in Georgia last week after being arrested on an outstanding warrant. On Wednesday, TMZ broke the news, while also sharing the singer's mugshot, which soon went viral online.

According to the report, the 52-year-old artist, best known for hits like 'Chamak Chalo' and 'Right Now (Na Na Na)', was taken into custody in DeKalb County last Thursday morning.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that the Chamblee Police Department carried out the arrest on the basis of an out-of-county warrant issued from Roswell in Fulton County.

Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was booked into jail, however, he was then released from custody within six hours, TMZ reported.

The exact nature of the warrant has not yet been disclosed. However, The Independent reports that authorities in Roswell, Georgia, had issued an arrest warrant for the singer two months earlier after discovering he had been driving with a suspended license.Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of Akon’s arrest or the status of the case.

Three years earlier, in a 2022 interview with VladTV, Akon shared that he had “seven boys and two girls,” but declined to address long-standing rumours about whether he practices polygamy. “I’ll let that stay a rumor,” he said at the time.On the professional front, the singer touched down in India last week to perform at a concert in Delhi. He is scheduled to perform in Bengaluru on November 14, and in Mumbai on November 16.
