Novak Djokovic has never shied away from chasing the impossible.
But at 38, the tennis icon admits his next goal — winning a record-extending 25th Grand Slam — may be the toughest challenge of his career.
The Serbian legend, who hasn’t lifted a Major since the 2023 US Open, has watched as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have taken control of the men’s game. Between them, the young guns have won the last eight Grand Slam titles, marking what many see as a generational shift in tennis.
“I am aware that if we put their best level against my current best level… they (Alcaraz and Sinner) are better, that’s the reality," Djokovic admitted in an interview with Piers Morgan.
Still, Djokovic isn’t done yet.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion was candid about his physical limits and the mountain that still stands before him.
“Throughout my career, I have always worked to be able to achieve impossible things. At the same time, I am nearly 39 years old, and the wear and tear is very real," Djokovic exclaimed.
While acknowledging the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner, Djokovic reaffirmed the mindset that has defined his career: relentless belief.
“Yes, I have much more doubt about being able to win another Grand Slam, especially because of Sinner and Alcaraz," he said. “But as long as I am playing, when I step onto the court, I don’t care who is on the other side of the net: I always think I am better and capable of winning. I just hope to keep my body healthy."
If Djokovic does win another Major, he’ll make more history: becoming the oldest man to win a Grand Slam in the Open Era. That record currently belongs to Ken Rosewall, who triumphed at the 1972 Australian Open at 37 years and two months.
Currently ranked World No. 4, Djokovic reached the semi-finals of all four Majors this year, proving that the Serbian great remains far from finished.
