Minister for home and disaster management Vangalapudi Anitha on Wednesday announced that all villages in Andhra Pradesh will be brought under CCTV camera surveillance by the end of 2025.
Ms. Anitha, Tuni MLA Yanamala Divya, Director General of Police (prisons and correctional services) Anjani Kumar and Kakinada Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav on Wednesday inaugurated the renovated sub-jail in Tuni town of Kakinada district. The home minister has also inaugurated an HPCL petrol bunk, which will be operated by the inmates of the Tuni sub-jail.
Speaking to newsmen later, Ms. Anitha said; “We have decided to bring all villages in every assembly constituency under CCTV surveillance. At least one lakh CCTV cameras will be installed, and 60 of them have already been installed. Within the next few months, the installation of the one lakh CCTV cameras will be completed.”
Meanwhile, the local body elections, including sarpanch and MPTC elections, are expected to be held in 2026. The Home Ministry is expected to intensify vigilance in villages to maintain harmony in the wake of the local body elections.
On prison surveillance, Ms. Anitha stated that all prisons have been completely brought under CCTV camera surveillance. She alleged that during the rule of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the CCTV surveillance system was non-functional.
