The State government on Wednesday promoted Alok Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, to the rank of Director- General of Police (DGP) with retrospective effect from September 12, 2025. The IPS officer has been transferred and posted as DGP of Prisons and Correctional Services.

Mr. Kumar has been serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Training.

In a corresponding transfer, B. Dayananda, who had been serving as the Additional Director-General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, has been moved to the training wing as ADGP.

The development follows the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) setting aside the departmental enquiry proceedings against Mr. Kumar. This was in connection with the 2019 case of leaked audio clips of lawfully intercepted phone calls.
