Bihar Counting Day Turns Heated with Dueling Posters from RJD and JDU

As vote counting gets underway in Bihar, a full-fledged poster war has taken over the political landscape. From Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) provocative “Alvida Chacha" message aimed at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to posters celebrating Janata Dal (United) strongman Anant Singh with slogans like “Jail ka faatak tootega", the charged atmosphere reflects the high stakes of this year’s election.

Early trends place the NDA ahead in over 100 seats.

RJD’s ‘alvida chacha’ jibe at JDU

At the RJD headquarters in Patna, a large poster declaring “Alvida Chacha", a farewell to Nitish Kumar, grabbed attention early on counting day. The poster features the chief minister walking away from his chair, hinting at what the RJD hopes will be the end of his tenure.

The RJD, which contested 143 seats, remains buoyed by confidence within the Mahagathbandhan. Party leaders have echoed Tejashwi Yadav’s repeated assertion that he will take oath as Chief Minister on 18 November, signalling their upbeat expectations despite fluctuating trends.

Anant Singh’s ‘Jail ka faatak tootega’ poster

Meanwhile, in Mokama, posters supporting jailed JDU candidate Anant Singh have surfaced ahead of the results. One of the most widely shared posters reads, “Jail ka faatak tootega, hamara sher chootega", calling for the release of the controversial strongman.

Anant Singh, arrested on 2 November in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dular Chand Yadav, remains a central figure in the constituency’s charged political environment. The post-mortem report indicated death due to cardiorespiratory failure resulting from injuries caused by a hard and blunt object, police said.

Three individuals, Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur, and Ranjeet Ram, were arrested in the case. Mokama, which voted in the first phase on 6 November, has witnessed a triangular contest involving Singh (JDU), Priyadarshi Piyush (Jan Suraaj) and Veena Devi (RJD).

NDA vs Mahagathbandhan

The poster battle escalated further with the JDU putting up banners of “Tiger Abhi Zinda Hai", portraying Nitish Kumar as the unshakeable leader poised to secure a record fifth term. Dedicated by former minister Ranjit Sinha, the posters seek to reinforce Nitish’s image as Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister.

In retaliation, RJD supporters displayed the now-viral “Alvida Chacha" posters outside their office, accompanied by caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, an unmistakable swipe at the NDA’s leadership.

Bihar witnessed a historic turnout of 67.13% across the two-phase elections on 6 and 11 November, the highest since Independence. As counting proceeds across 243 constituencies, all eyes remain on whether Nitish Kumar will continue his reign or whether a resurgent opposition will upend Bihar’s political order.

Exit polls have largely predicted an NDA edge, with the BJP expected to emerge as the single largest party.
