In a shocking case of deception and assault, a man posing as an Indian Army officer has been arrested for allegedly raping a 27-year-old doctor in Delhi. The accused, identified as Aarav Malik, worked as a delivery agent with Amazon and was taken into custody following a police raid in the Chhatarpur area.

According to officials, Malik befriended the doctor, who works at Safdarjung Hospital, through Instagram, where he introduced himself as a serving Army Lieutenant. The two later began communicating over WhatsApp, and he reportedly maintained his false identity for several months.

Between April 30 and September 27, Malik continued to deceive the victim by claiming he was posted in Kashmir. To make his story believable, he sent her several photographs of himself dressed in an Army uniform.

In October, he visited the doctor’s home in the Masjid Moth area, where he allegedly spiked her food and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the spot. The traumatised victim filed a complaint at the Safdarjung Enclave Police Station on October 16, prompting a swift investigation.

Arrest and investigation

Police traced Malik’s movements and launched a raid in Chhatarpur, leading to his arrest. During interrogation, the accused confessed to purchasing the Army uniform from a shop in Delhi Cantonment to support his fraudulent claims.

Authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police sources said further investigations are underway to determine whether Malik had deceived others in a similar manner or used his fake identity to target additional victims.
