Anakapalle man gets 10-years jail for transporting 610 kg ganja

Visakhapatnam: The IX-additional district judge court in Chodavaram of Anakapalle district on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10-years imprisonment for possession of 610 kg of marijuana in Sep 2016 and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the convict.

The convicted person was G Chittibabu, driver of the ganja-laden vehicle.Anakapalle district police chief Tuhin Sinha said Kothakota police seized 610 kg of dry cannabis and arrested the accused when he was transporting the weed in a four-wheeler. The investigation has revealed that three more people were involved in the illegal trade and they were still absconding.Police registered a case against the smugglers and investigated it. The smuggler was charged under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. After the regular trials, the judge sentenced Chittibabu to 10-years imprisonment and imposed the fine.
