Anantapur MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad warned of strict action against doctors failing to maintain punctuality in attending their duties.
Mr. Prasad made a surprise visit to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur on Wednesday morning and found that some of the doctors had not attended to their duties even at 9.30 a.m.. The MLA inspected the room where out-patients slips are given, various departments, in-patient wards and pharmacy. He interacted with the patients and enquired about the medical services at the hospital. Some of them complained about doctors not attending their duties on time.
As many doctors failed to attend to their duties by 9.30 a.m., he enquired about the reasons for the delay and the time till OP services would be given with Hospital Superintendent Dr. Subramanyam. He asked the Superintendent to take action against those failed to attend to their duties on time.
Mr. Prasad also enquired about the number of in-patients, out-patients, and the facilities at the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad said that though the facilities at the hospital were satisfactory, the patients were facing problems as the number of beds has not been increased from 500 in the past 20 years. He said that the number of in-patients was between 2,000 to 2,500 and the out-patient number stood at 1,200. However, the facilities, budget and staff was not sufficient to meet the demand.
The MLA said that the issue had already been discussed at the hospital development committee meeting and was taken up with Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav. He said the hospital will soon be upgraded to 1,200 beds and warned of action against any staff demanding or accepting money from the patients.
