Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday (October 27, 2025) urged the Tamil Nadu government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss and decide on the reconstitution of the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Commission, as its term ends on November 16.
In a statement, he expressed concern over the functioning of the Commission in the last three years. He alleged that the current Commission, constituted in November 2022, had failed to fulfil its responsibilities. “The Commission, which was created to protect social justice, has instead aided the conspiracies of the government, which seeks to destroy social justice. Its failure to fulfil even one of the tasks assigned to it not only reflects incompetence but also betrayal. Persons who are opposed to social justice principles should not be given any position in the new Commission,” he said.
According to him, the Commission was assigned six responsibilities and an additional task. However, in the last three years, it failed to fulfil them. “One of the important duties of the Commission was to revise the list of Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes. Except for splitting a caste group into two sub-groups, the Commission did nothing in this regard. It did not even attempt to fulfil another duty of recommending an increase in reservation for religious minority communities based on their social and educational backwardness,” he alleged.
Despite the Supreme Court allowing the collection of data on the social and educational status of Vanniyars and recommending internal reservation for the community, the Commission failed to act, he contended.
