French legend Patrick Vieira has been given the boot by Serie A side Genoa as the Italian outfit find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table.

Roberto Murgita and Domenico Criscito have been named as joint interim managers for the side’s upcoming game against Sassuolo, as they look to end their 9-game winless streak.

“Genoa CFC announces that Patrick Vieira is no longer the coach of the First Team," the side said in a statement.

“The company would like to thank the technician and his staff for the seriousness and professionalism demonstrated during their work and expresses its best wishes for the continuation of their professional career," the Italian outfit added.

“The technical guidance of the First Team was entrusted on an interim basis to coach Roberto Murgita assisted by coach Domenico Criscito," the statement continued.

Vieira, a World Cup winner with France as a player, was hired a year ago to replace the fired Alberto Gilardino, with Genoa just one spot above the relegation zone. He led Genoa to a 13th-place finish last season, and his contract was extended for two more years.

However, Genoa has lost six of its nine matches this season and was defeated 2-0 at home by promoted Cremona last weekend. This marks the second coaching change in Serie A this week, following Luciano Spalletti replacing the fired Igor Tudor at Juventus.
