YSRCP Member of Parliament from Rajampet P.V. Midhun Reddy was released from the Rajahmundry Central Prison after the ACB Court in Vijayawada granted him an interim bail on Saturday.
Mr. Midhun Reddy was arrested on July 19 for his involvement in the multi-crore liquor scandal, alleged to have been committed during the YSRCP government’s term in Andhra Pradesh, after he appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Mr. Midhun Reddy, who had been named Accused No. 4 in the case, was charged with conspiring along with the co-accused in the diversion of money collected from the distillery companies. Twelve persons had so far been arrested in the case.
“Mr. Midhun Reddy has been released on an interim bail to enable him to cast his vote in the Vice-Presidential election to be conducted on September 9,” Rajahmundry Central Prison Superintendent S. Rahul told The Hindu.
Mr. Midhun Reddy would have to surrender before the Superintendent of the Rajahmundry Central Prison before 5 p.m. on September 11.
Upon his release, the YSRCP leader was greeted at the prison by former Rajamahendravaram MP Margani Bharat and others.
Three get bail
Meanwhile, the court granted bail to three other accused in the case — K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa — subject to the condition of payment of ₹1 lakh surety each.
