The Andhra Pradesh police seized around 370 kg of dry cannabis from Anakapalli district. One accused was arrested while another managed to escape.

Acting on credible information about illegal cannabis transportation, the police conducted vehicle checks at Vempadu toll plaza. Two cars, suspected of carrying the contraband, attempted to flee upon spotting the police.

In the chase, one vehicle collided with a two-wheeler and sped away. However, the police intercepted the second car and arrested the driver, identified as Narendra Dayal from Uttar Pradesh. Both vehicles were seized, along with the cannabis estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh in the market.

A case has been registered against the accused. Efforts are underway to trace and nab the absconding individual.

“On June 23, upon receiving information about illegal transport of ganja, the police organised vehicle checking. Upon seeing the police, two vehicles tried to take a U-turn and escape. Police teams chased them and apprehended the driver of one car. During investigation, he revealed that the cars have fake number plates. We’re working on establishing the source and destination of the contraband,” said P Srinivasarao, DSP, Narsipatnam, Anakapalli district.
