A teacher in Andhra Pradesh has been suspended after a video surfaced on social media showing her sitting on a chair, talking on the phone, while school children massage her feet.
The incident took place at the Bandapalli Girls’ Tribal Ashram School in Meliyaputti mandal of Srikakulam district.
The video, which shows two young students massaging the teacher’s feet, has gone viral, prompting swift action from authorities.
Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Seetampeta Project Officer Pawar Swapnil Jagannath issued a show-cause notice to the teacher and ordered an inquiry. In her explanation, the teacher claimed she had been suffering from knee pain and had fallen earlier that day, adding that students merely helped her and the video misrepresented the facts.
However, following the emergence of the new video, officials have ordered a fresh inquiry. The headmistress has been suspended until the completion of the investigation.
In another incident from Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district in February this year, a government school teacher was suspended after a video showed her forcing students to wash her car and do personal chores at a school in Venkatapuram village of Rangampeta mandal.
The education department noted that assigning such personal tasks to students violated the Right to Education (RTE) norms.
