TRIGGER WARNING: This article includes references to sexual abuse.Things just keep getting messier for the Duggar family, but this time, Anna Duggar is right in the thick of it. She’s always been known for sticking by her husband, Joshua, aka Josh, even after his conviction, but now she’s stepped up for her brother-in-law, Joseph Duggar, too.

Word is, Anna’s been helping Joseph out while he’s behind bars: offering advice, emotional support, and even some cash.

Anna Duggar’s advice to Joseph Duggar on life behind bars: What’s happening?

As reported by People, after Joseph landed in the Washington County Detention Facility, stuck in solitary confinement for 10 days, he leaned on two people: his wife, Kendra, and now Anna. Kendra got most of his phone time, but Anna was the first in the family to reach out after his arrest. She sent a long email just three days after he was booked.

“Hey Joseph! Bro, you’ve got our prayers. We love you—however we can help, please let us know,” she wrote.

She also let him know she’d "put some money on your books," (commissary account) so he could buy stuff and call Kendra. Anna even offered to help set up those calls if he needed it.Anna didn’t stop there. She warned Joseph not to talk about anything legal unless his lawyer was present because, as she put it, “Just remember, don’t talk about anything legal unless you are with an attorney.

Everything said in these messages, phone calls, and video chats are recorded and turned over to prosecutors.”She reassured him that Josh’s time at the same jail was “fairly safe,” but told Joseph to reach out if he had any concerns about his health or safety. Anna also mentioned the "commissary has a two week delay" for orders, but suggested he inquire to see if that is still the case because "if you will be there a while, we definitely want to send some goodies your way."She wrapped up the email talking about how strong and loving Kendra is, then ended with, “Praying for ya, love ya. Anna.”The next day, Anna and Joseph swapped eight more emails, with Anna helping connect Kendra and Joseph for calls and sharing a few tips about surviving solitary. Anna told him, “You can put in a request to chaplain to visit you—he can give you more books too.” In phone calls between Joseph and Kendra, Kendra thanked Anna for all her help, and it was clear the two women stayed in close contact while Joseph was locked up.

Who is Joseph Duggar?

For those who are catching up, here’s a quick rundown on Joseph Duggar: He’s one of the many Duggar siblings who shot to fame on reality TV: first with ‘19 Kids and Counting’, then ‘Counting On’. He’s married to Kendra, and they have four kids. Joseph’s always been the quiet, family-focused type, so his recent arrest stunned a lot of people. In March 2026, police arrested Joseph and hit him with serious charges. He’s accused of molesting a minor during a 2020 family trip.

He pleaded not guilty and got out on a USD 600,000 bond, but the court slapped him with strict rules: no unsupervised contact with minors, including his own kids. The case is ongoing and will unfold in court over the next few months. He’s been held at Bay County Jail after being charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. Per the same outlet, authorities say Joseph abused a nine-year-old girl several times during that family trip to Panama City Beach in 2020.

He filed a written plea of not guilty and isn’t allowed alone with anyone under 18, not even his own kids, while he waits for trial.Anna Duggar first stepped into the spotlight on ‘19 Kids and Counting’ and ‘Counting On’. She’s married to Josh Duggar, the family’s oldest son. Back in 2021, Josh was convicted of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material. He’s serving a 12-year sentence in federal prison in Texas. And, as if that’s not enough, it was revealed in 2015 that Josh had molested four of his sisters when they were kids. Two of his sisters, Jessa Seewald and Jill Dillard, later spoke out about the abuse, both in interviews and in their books.DISCLAIMER: If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, assault, or abuse, please seek immediate help.
