The Annamayya district police on Wednesday conducted an awareness camp on women’s safety, cybercrime, drug abuse, and the use of the Shakti App, at a private college here. Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Vidyasagar Naidu initiated the programme, led by the women’s wing police and the Shakti team.

The SP urged the students to recognise the importance of legal awareness in current society. He appealed to the youth and students, particularly women, to face adverse situations boldly. Speaking about the provisions of key laws that protect women, Mr. Naidu highlighted how the Shakti App and dedicated helplines of the Police Department could provide immediate assistance during emergencies.

The official further detailed on the critical toll-free numbers — 112 for emergencies, 1930 for cybercrime, 181 for women’s helpline and child marriage-related issues, 1098 for child protection, and 1972 for drug-related complaints. He emphasised the evil impact of narcotics on youth, their behaviour, and career. He observed that consuming drugs was directly leading to a number of road accidents.

The awareness camp also demonstrated the functioning of Shakti teams in the district and their role in quickly responding to crisis situations. The police officials, who spoke on this occasion, asked the students to promptly report cases of cyber fraud, harassment, child marriages, or any criminal activity to their nearest police stations, or by calling the police helpline numbers.
