A boy, who was severely injured in a firecracker accident during a Ganesha idol immersion procession near Doddaballapura town on the outskirts of Bengaluru on August 29, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, taking the death toll in the incident to two.
The deceased has been identified as Yogesh, 15, who was among the nine people, injured. Dhanush, 15, was killed on the day of the accident.
According to the police, Yogesh, who was rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to Victoria hospital burns ward succumbed on Tuesday.
A multi-shot cracker box, which was kept on a forklift carrying the Ganesha idol, was ignited due to a heated silencer and hit the members of the crowd.
The Doddaballapura Town police have arrested Chandrakumar, Maruthi, Kishore and Manjunath, who organised the procession, and booked them under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 125A (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Bengaluru Rural Deputy Commissioner (DC) A.B. Basavaraj on Saturday issued an order banning the bursting of firecrackers in the district during the Ganesha idol installation and immersion processions and any other political and religious programmes where large gatherings take place henceforth.
