The 'sheeshmahal' controversy is back and this time, it has travelled beyond Delhi.

The BJP on Friday reignited its 'sheeshmahal' attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, this time claiming the former Delhi Chief Minister has been allotted a "7-star luxury bungalow" in Chandigarh by the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government.

Sharing what it said was an aerial photograph of the property, the BJP alleged the two-acre residence in Chandigarh's Sector 2 was sanctioned under the Chief Minister's quota.

"The man who pretended to be a 'common man' has had another grand 'sheeshmahal' built. After the Delhi 'sheeshmahal' was vacated, Punjab's 'Super Chief Minister' Arvind Kejriwal ji has had an even more splendid one constructed," the Delhi unit of the BJP posted on X.

The charge was echoed by AAP's rebel MP Swati Maliwal, who alleged that Kejriwal has been allotted an even more luxurious bungalow compared to what he once had in Delhi.

"After vacating Delhi's sheeshmahal, Arvind Kejriwal ji has got an even more luxurious one ready in Punjab. The 2-acre, 7-star government bungalow in Chandigarh's Sector 2 has been allotted to him. Yesterday, he boarded a government helicopter from outside this house to Ambala, and from there, a Punjab government private jet flew him to Gujarat for party work. The entire Punjab government seems to be serving one man".

Neither Kejriwal, who mostly stays in Punjab after AAP's Delhi poll drubbing, nor the Bhagwant Mann government has yet commented on the Chandigarh bungalow claim.

The controversy mirrored the earlier row over Kejriwal's official residence at 6, Flag Staff Road in Delhi, dubbed the 'sheeshmahal' by the BJP, which alleged Rs 45 crore of public money had been spent on its renovation. The AAP had then defended the expenditure, calling it a routine government renovation carried out by the PWD, and accused the BJP of twisting facts for political gain.

The BJP-led Delhi government has said that a probe into the controversy will be initiated to determine how much government money was used in renovating the bungalow.
