An anthology of poems, Idanerangalile Thanalvazhikal, penned by 28 nurses from Kozhikode district, which was released on Friday (May 30), features verses inspired by their personal experiences.

Novelist Kalpetta Narayanan inaugurated the function, while poet P.K. Gopi released the book by handing a copy to novelist Sheela Tomy.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheena K.P., nursing officer at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, said, “As nurses and women, we are often forced to bury our dreams.”

She described the collection as a long-cherished dream, thanking the Kerala Government Nurses Association (KGNA) for its support and Rasaq Kalleri for facilitating them to publish it through Noura Publications.

“I have been encouraged to publish poems after sharing them on social media, but as a nurse, I did not think it was possible to get them published,” said Sindu T. A., nurse at Kozhikode Beach Hospital.

She also gave the collection its title, saying that writing gives her the much-needed “thanal”(shade) from her intense profession.

A. K. Abdulhakeem, district project coordinator of Samagra Shiksha Kerala, presided over the event.
