Anthony Edwards didn’t hold back when he jokingly laid down some ground rules for NBA insider Shams Charania. The Minnesota Timberwolves star made it clear that if he ever finds himself in a blockbuster trade situation like Luka Doncic, he expects to hear it from Charania personally, not through social media.

By the look of it, it appears that even Edwards is slightly terrified by the devastating trades that break the hearts of many fans of a particular franchise.

Anthony Edwards jokingly sends a warning to Shams Charania over future trade leaks

During the 1st Annual Believe That Awards, hosted by Anthony Edwards and Nick Maddox, Shams Charania recalled the whirlwind night when Luka Doncic was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. Certainly, it was a deal that stunned the entire basketball world.

Charania admitted the trade announcement nearly shook him to his core.

“Going back to the Luka Doncic trade... that was a wild night,” Charania said. “I thought I was being catfished, honestly. I thought my phone was being hacked. I remember I got the first text at like 11:05 p.m. Central Chicago. I’m chilling and I tweeted out seven minutes later. So between those seven minutes, like my hands were shaking because you just know the ramifications that it has.

No one ever expects a guy like Luka to get traded.

That’s when Edwards chimed in with his trademark confidence and of course, with his classic humor. “If I'm going to get traded, you better fuking text me. Don’t leak that sht on Twitter — or X, or whatever. Send me a message. Let me know,” he told Charania.

Luka Doncic trade shock still ripples across the league

The Luka Doncic trade earlier this year remains one of the most stunning moves in NBA history. Dallas sent its franchise player — a five-time All-NBA First Team selection — to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, marking the first time two active All-NBA players were traded for each other midseason.

The deal blindsided fans, players, and even insiders, given Doncic’s repeated public desire to spend his entire career in Dallas.Charania reflected on that chaos during the event, explaining how moments like that define his job: “All anyone sees now is you’re an All-Star, right? You’re a franchise piece. Like no one thinks about when you were in high school or in college... all you can do is control one thing, and that’s your grind.”Certainly, trade news can be devastating, and Doncic was evidently devastated to hear the update. Regardless, it appears that the Slovenian basketball superstar is adapting to the Los Angeles Lakers roster and is committed to giving his full effort, as he lost approximately 31 pounds headlining the franchise ahead of the 2025-26 season. Also Read: “Hold me accountable” – Anthony Edwards embodies Minnesota Timberwolves’ new mentality with eyes set firmly on one goal
